IIS Manager .NET Roles

So just had a break through with ASP.NET that has made my day and wanted to share with everyone.

It makes complete sense now to manage the .NET membership system through the IIS manager instead of the ASP.NETWebAdminFiles.  It's so much easier to use on other computers without having to install Visual Studio just to access membership.  I kept getting an error on .NET Roles which said "This feature cannot be used because the default provider type could not be determined to check whether it is a trusted provider".  Google searches didn't turn up anything useful and part of problem solving is reading the error messages properly.  What gave me a clue in the error message was "The provider has to be strongly typed and added to the Global Assembly Cache".

I realised something was missing in my web.config settings under roleManager.  Simply add the following to the roleManager type:

System.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3

and voila!  Workey!

This has made my day and I really hope it will help someone else too.

Happy coding!
